Denver Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) acted quickly at the beginning of the pandemic to close streets in parks to vehicles and open them to people. Since then, DPR has been responsive to community feedback and presented plans to keep many of the car free streets in place permanently to the public back in February.Recently, DPR opened more streets in City Park to vehicles than they originally presented, which is disappointing and takes space away from people walking, running and biking. We’re asking DPR to close the entrance to the park at 17th Avenue and 21st Avenue so that there is a continuous car free segment that goes through the entire park. Doing this would allow access to parking lots within the park and ensure that the park is accessible to people of all ages, abilities, using all modes of travel.

Please RSVP below to join us for a community gathering at City Park on Saturday, April 10 at 11:00am to show support for car free parks and this proposal within City Park. We ask that attendees practice physical distancing and wear masks at this event. Here’s what you can expect on Saturday, April 10:

11:00am: Meet at gathering point and hear from community members about their support for car free parks
11:30am: Take a group walk or roll on a loop through the park
12:00pm: Community gathering, enjoying the park together, and treats!
