Communications Coordinator (Part-Time, Temporary)
This part-time, temporary position is 20 hours a week, June 1 through December 18, 2026. Applications are due Friday, May 8.
This position will support DSP’s communications and grassroots organizing work, and is an opportunity to gain valuable skills training and industry expertise related to nonprofit advocacy work. This includes but is not limited to creating content to inspire action-taking across multiple communication modes, connecting with new and already engaged supporters, and coordinating daily and weekly activities with DSP’s long-term strategies and campaigns. The ideal candidate is an aspiring advocate who is excited about DSP’s mission and interested in working and learning in a scrappy, nonprofit environment on a small team. The selected applicant is expected to dive into DSP’s work with enthusiasm, ask lots of questions, and provide task support across various areas including policy, communications, organizing, and current advocacy programs.
The position reports directly to the Organizing Director and works in partnership with the Executive Director as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ORGANIZING DIRECTOR
- Assist with digital outreach to and activation of supporters through helping to create content for:
- Website (e.g., blog posts)
- SMS (texting)
- Social media
- Help with managing the DSP online supporter database to track advocates and campaigns.
- Spring/Summer 2026 advocacy campaign issues will include Vision Zero (street safety), upcoming transformative transit projects, the City and County of Denver’s annual budget, follow-up from the 2025 state legislative session, and opportunities to increase funding for public transit service.
- Provide input on developing collateral materials that promote DSP events, programs, educational activities, and policy campaigns.
- Take photos, videos, and audio recordings at events or during grassroots advocacy efforts.
- Assist with general organizing and housekeeping tasks
- Assist with other grassroots organizing tasks as needed
- Support with outreach events, including tabling at community events and hosting our own
- Join the Organizing Director and Executive Director at meetings with public officials and partner organizations
- Contribute ideas that align with our core values, a zealous outlook, creative problem-solving, and a collaborative spirit to the team
- Provide additional support to the team as needed, and as capacity allows, to advance the mission and vision of the organization
BACKGROUND AND SKILLS SOUGHT
Required
- A passion for walking, biking, and transit in urban settings, or an interest in learning about the importance of such
- Skilled at communicating in a concise, compelling, and accessible manner
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Google Apps (e.g., Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)
Desired
- Familiarity with urban transportation policy issues
- Proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or similar software
- Proficiency with WordPress and Mailchimp or similar communications platforms
- Proficiency with Canva or similar graphic design tools
- Photography and video editing skills
- Proficiency with speaking, reading, and writing Spanish

COMPENSATION
We are offering $25/hr as compensation for this position. The position is not eligible for benefits.
WORK SCHEDULE
This part-time, temporary position is 20 hours a week, June 1 through December 18.
Scheduling is flexible based on the staff member’s needs and can be discussed with their supervisor. Ebb and flow of work provides the opportunity to commit to some longer days or weeks, including some evenings and weekends. All staff are encouraged to take comp time as needed to achieve an average of 40 hours per week (for full-time positions) or 20 hours per week (for half-time positions and internships).
This is a hybrid position. We currently work remotely all weekdays except Thursday, when we are in office near downtown at the Colorado Health Capitol (303 E 17th Ave), a shared co-working workspace.
OTHER
Our office is fairly accessible by transit, walking, and biking. Locked indoor bicycle parking is provided, as is monitored bicycle parking in the garage. Paid vehicle parking is available in the garage; DSP will only cover the costs of parking in the garage when it relates to our work (taking supplies in/out for an event, etc.)
