DENVER — Today, the Denver Elections Division announced that Denver Deserves Sidewalks gathered enough valid signatures to qualify for the November 2022 ballot. Denver Deserves Sidewalks would publicly fund the buildout and ongoing maintenance of sidewalks across the city, through a modest annual fee assessed to property owners. The initiative would remove responsibility for sidewalk repairs from adjacent property owners, and place this responsibility on the City.

The organization supporting this initiative, the Denver Streets Partnership collected 19,197 signatures and of those, the Denver Elections Division found 10,464 of those signatures to be valid, exceeding the 9,184 necessary to qualify for the ballot.

“We are excited that Denverites will have the opportunity to vote for a more equitable, fair, and safe city for everyone when they cast a vote for Denver Deserves Sidewalks,” said Jill Locantore, Executive Director of the Denver Streets Partnership. “Sidewalks are the foundation of a complete transportation system, and are especially important for people with disabilities, older adults, parents with children, and anyone who is unable to drive or would prefer to drive less.”

“It’s long past time for Denver to have a complete, accessible sidewalk network,” said Molly McKinley, Policy Director at the Denver Streets Partnership. “We believe we have community support on our side and are excited to take this measure to the voters in November.”

Denver Deserves Sidewalks grew out of advocacy efforts by the Denver Streets Partnership over the last seven years. For more information about Denver Deserves Sidewalks, visit denversidewalks.com.
