We work with communities all over Denver but one especially close to our heart is the Little Saigon district on South Federal. This diverse corridor is packed full of restaurants and businesses, often owned and operated by several generations of the same family. Through these families and establishments flows the lifeblood of an extraordinarily unique and culturally-rich area. Supporting them is a central pillar of our work to design communities that prioritize people.

Last year, we took over surface parking lots on the corridor to host two night markets, drawing together thousands of Denver residents to celebrate the multicultural flair of Little Saigon, and demonstrating what’s possible when spaces previously dominated by cars are reclaimed for people. When Denver closed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked with West Denver Renaissance Collaborative and members of the local community to identify the best way to support Little Saigon. The result is LittleSaigonDenver.com, a directory of local restaurants and businesses, many of which have never boasted an online presence.

Now, we’re going one step further and helping local restaurants expand seating outdoors by once again repurposing parking spaces. Three Little Saigon restaurants – Pho 555, Now Pho, and Pho Duy – have successfully added patio seating, complete with fencing, benches, planters, and umbrellas; more are working through the permitting process.

Here’s how you can help: in order to maintain one of Denver’s most culturally-rich areas, we need to support these family-owned businesses. For starters, check out the Little Saigon website and order some delicious Asian food. Restaurants with outdoor seating are noted – consider visiting in person to keep Little Saigon one of our city’s most vibrant and delicious corridors.
