East High Pop-Up Bike Lane Demonstration

The Denver Streets Partnership and our Vision Zero partners will be hosting a pop-up bike lane in Spring 2020 to test out the planned Esplanade Bikeway!

Project Info

This spring, we will be hosting a pop-up protected bike lane in front of East High School on the Esplanade between 16th and 17th Avenues. The Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is planning to install this High Comfort Bikeway during the summer so we wanted to give students, parents, and neighbors a sneak preview of what the bikeway will look like! Installation of the pop-up demonstration will begin on the evening of May 14, after school activities are done for the day, and will be in place until the evening of May 16.

How can I get involved?

What is a pop-up demonstration?

A pop-up traffic calming demonstration uses low-cost, temporary materials to simulate street designs aimed at slowing travel speeds and increasing safety. These types of “tactical urbanism” projects engage community members mixing people-friendly infrastructure with art, culture, and street life by:

  • inviting community members visualize and experience a safer street design
  • testing or demonstrating how well a particular design works on your street
  • gathering community feedback
  • building awareness and support for permanent changes
