Supporting small businesses in Little Saigon and Westwood

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Denver Streets Partnership has worked with a variety of community partners in West Denver to support the locally-owned businesses in the Little Saigon and Westwood areas. Small businesses are the lifeblood of any community and, in Denver, the places we’re trying to get to by foot, bike, or bus. Our city is blessed with dozens of fantastic, locally-owned restaurants, and making sure they have the tools and resources to stay afloat during COVID-19 is a top priority of ours.

Early in 2020, we launched an online resource to support the family-owned restaurants in this area that are open for take-out and delivery. These unique restaurants and businesses offer authentic experiences that can’t be found anywhere else in Denver and, until recently, most of them did not have menus or contact information online. Support these family-owned restaurants in one of Denver’s most culturally-rich areas!

We’ve also helped restaurants in Little Saigon and Westwood expand their seating areas outdoors. We supported three restaurants in Little Saigon, helping them apply for permits to and then install outdoor dining areas, enabling them to host pursuers of delicious pho and banh mi in safe and socially-distant areas.

Most recently, thanks to a NACTO grant administered through Denver DOTI, we funded winter outdoor seating expansions at four more businesses. In partnership with three Business Districts across Denver, we worked with restaurant owners at Kahlos and La Chilanga in the Westwood neighborhood and Tacos Acapulco and East Fax in the East Colfax neighborhood to create site plans; purchase materials such as roofing, patio tables, chairs, lighting, tents, and heaters; and construct their new outdoor dining spaces.
