Community partners to host multicultural event under West Colfax viaduct in celebration of West Denver’s bounty of culture, art, food, and music
DENVER — Sun Valley Community Kitchen + Community Center, The West Colfax Business Improvement District, Denver Arts & Venues, the Denver Streets Partnership, the Latino Cultural Arts Center, and Raices Brewing Company are excited to host the second West Denver Rising Viaduct Night Market on August 20th. Striving to build connection and celebrate the incredible diversity and culture of the Sun Valley neighborhood and West Denver at large, the event will bring together local food trucks and vendors, artisans, community organizations, live music, and more. The event will be hosted under the West Colfax viaduct in a once barren space recently transformed by local artists. “[This night market] was the vision of a lot of community . . . this community saw something different. They saw this as a safe and celebratory hub for business, for merchants, for artisans, and for local vendors,” says Jamie Torres, Denver City Council District 3.
The West Denver Rising Viaduct Night Market will take place on Saturday, August 20th from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the southernmost parking lots of Empower Field at Mile High under the West Colfax viaduct, just east of the Latino Cultural Arts Center at 2705 W. Colfax Ave. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Attendees can expect a similar set up to the inaugural event that took place on May 14th—watch the event recap on YouTube. The upcoming market on August 20th will feature over 30 food and craft vendors, beer served by Raices Brewing Company, and a packed line-up of live performances by local artists, such as Denver musician Neoma. Additional activities will include life-size games, a digital photo booth, face painting, henna, and a bike rodeo, in which kids will be invited to ride through an obstacle course to practice their bicycle skills with Bicycle Colorado. There will also be a school supply drive collecting donations to support Sun Valley youth. Supplies requested include but are not limited to backpacks, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, notebooks, and folders.
